Despite the love triangle that occurred during their teenage years, Danica McKellar and Candace Cameron Bure have managed to maintain a strong and lasting friendship throughout the decades. The incident, which McKellar recently recounted during her attendance at That’s4Entertainment’s ’90s Con in Tampa, Florida, sheds light on a humorous and innocent moment from their past.
In 1989, a teen magazine hosted a party that brought together young actors, including Jeremy Miller from “Growing Pains.” It was at this event that Miller approached McKellar and asked her to be his girlfriend, to which she happily accepted. Little did she know, Cameron Bure had also believed that she and Miller were dating, leading to an unexpected love triangle.
Reflecting on the situation, McKellar acknowledged the triviality of it all, considering their young age of 13 at the time. She emphasized that it was not a serious relationship and that they were simply navigating the complexities of teenage emotions. Despite the confusion and misunderstanding, McKellar and Cameron Bure managed to move past the incident and maintain a genuine friendship that has endured over the years.
Their ability to laugh about the love triangle now serves as a testament to their maturity and the strength of their bond. It is a reminder that even in the world of Hollywood, where relationships can be complicated and fleeting, true friendships can withstand the test of time.
As McKellar and Cameron Bure continue to support each other in their respective careers and personal lives, their shared experience of the love triangle serves as a lighthearted anecdote that adds depth and richness to their enduring friendship. It is a testament to the power of forgiveness, understanding, and the ability to move forward, even in the face of teenage drama.
Years later on ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ it was revealed to me that she and I were dating, to which I was taken aback. Jeremy’s behavior was not commendable,” she stated with a chuckle.
Fortunately, my friendship with Candace has remained intact.”
Beyond their shared past as childhood stars, the 48-year-old’s friendship with Bure is rooted in their faith, which is a recent addition to McKellar’s life.
“I became a believer in April of last year, and it has been an incredible journey and relationship,” the “Dancing with the Stars” alum shared.
McKellar has been candid about her spiritual exploration on social media, including Instagram and the Great American Community app, which is associated with the Great American Family Channel, where McKellar has appeared in numerous projects.
“I am currently engaged in reading the Bible in its entirety this year, and it has been an incredibly enriching experience,” she stated with a chuckle. “It is a voluminous work, but I am determined to complete it by year-end, and the journey thus far has been nothing short of amazing.
“For me, this endeavor is not rooted in religion, but rather in fostering a meaningful relationship. The sense of fulfillment that I have derived from this pursuit is immeasurable, and I earnestly hope and pray that others may experience the same sense of peace.”
McKellar also lent her support to Bure in the wake of the latter’s controversial remarks regarding the Great American Family’s programming focus on traditional marriage. Bure faced criticism but later clarified that she harbors no ill will towards any individual or group.
Nonetheless, Neal Bledsoe, McKellar’s co-star, made the decision to depart from the network. In an interview with Variety, he expressed his desire to take pride in his artistic creations. However, the notion that his work could be utilized to intentionally discriminate against individuals appalled and incensed him. He further stated that he hopes for a transformation in the network’s practices, but until all individuals can be portrayed with dignity in their films, his decision to leave remains unequivocal.
Last year at Christmas, McKellar expressed her admiration for Neal, describing him as a remarkable individual and an exceptional actor. She also shared her appreciation for their collaborative work. Both Neal and McKellar are ardent supporters of the LGBT community. However, McKellar respectfully disagrees with Neal’s interpretation of Bure’s comments. She notes that Bure’s statement began with the phrase “I think,” which suggests a lack of definitiveness, and concluded with “at its core,” which does not imply exclusivity. Despite their differing perspectives, McKellar holds Neal in high regard and wishes him all the best.
This year, the experience of attending the ’90s Con during the weekend evoked a sense of nostalgia in McKellar, reminding her of her time on “The Wonder Years,” which aired on ABC from 1988 to 1993. McKellar expressed that she has received numerous messages from fans expressing their admiration for her work on childhood shows, which has evoked a warm and sentimental feeling. Additionally, she noted that reminiscing about the ’90s has been enjoyable. However, the star of “Christmas She Wrote” acknowledged that growing up as a teenager in the public eye was not always easy.
As a child growing up in the 1990s, I believe that many children experience a great deal of insecurity. If I were to speak to my younger self during that time, I would offer reassurance by saying, “Everything will work out. Do not worry excessively. Although the outcome may not be what you anticipate, it will be satisfactory.” These were the words expressed by McKellar.
McKellar also shared that the swing dance revival was an unforeseen highlight of the 1990s for her. During the late 1990s, there was a resurgence of interest in swing dancing, and she frequently attended swing dance clubs in Los Angeles. In 1999, she was given the opportunity to portray Rizzo in a regional production of “Grease” located just outside of Los Angeles.
“I vividly recall engaging in swing dancing on stage, and during that very moment, as I gazed upon the multitude of gleaming, joyous countenances and witnessed the exuberant dance moves, I felt an overwhelming sense of contentment, realizing that there was no other place I would rather be at that precise instant,” she elaborated. “Engaging in any other activity would pale in comparison. My adoration for dancing was simply unparalleled.
“Subsequently, several years later, I had the privilege of participating in the esteemed television show ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ Presently, I am fortunate enough to showcase my dancing skills in various cinematic productions!”
The actress is channeling her passion for swing dancing into a fresh role on the television show “Swing Into Romance” by Great American Family.
Within the film, McKellar portrays a former dancer who participates in a competition with the intention of generating funds for her family’s store. Additionally, her former partner from “Dancing with the Stars,” Gleb Savchenko, makes a special appearance in the movie.
The premiere of “Swing into Romance” is scheduled for October 7th on Great American Family.
