As the nation awaits the final tally in the 2024 presidential election, results are pouring in from across the United States. While it may still be days before the full picture emerges, early returns indicate a tight race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

On Election Day morning, the candidates were separated by less than 1% in national polls, according to a Decision Desk HQ and The Hill polling average. The razor-thin margins reflect similar tight competition in seven critical battleground states โ€“ Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. These states are expected to play a decisive role in determining the next president, but as of 8 p.m. Eastern Time, three of these states had yet to declare a winner due to the extremely close counts.

This yearโ€™s voter turnout is also being closely watched. Early voting records were strong, with over 82 million Americans casting ballots before Election Day. In the 2020 election, 66% of eligible voters participated โ€“ the highest since 1900, per Pew Research. Will 2024 break this record? Time will tell as the final votes are counted in this historic race.

Stay tuned for ongoing updates as Americaโ€™s choice for president becomes clear.
